NAEP 2009 Reading Results: 8th Grade

In 2007, Iowa had an average scale score of 267 and only three states had significantly higher scores.  (See the NAEP page for more.)

In 2009, Iowa’s average scale score is 265 and thirteen states have scores that are significantly higher:

  • Massachusetts (274),
  • New Jersey (273),
  • Connecticut (272),
  • Vermont (272),
  • New Hampshire (271),
  • Pennsylvania (271),
  • Minnesota (270),
  • Montana (270),
  • South Dakota (270),
  • North Dakota (269),
  • Ohio (269), and
  • Wyoming (268).

Twenty states have scores that are not significantly different from Iowa’s: Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.
