Teaching Like a Champion

I am currently reading Doug Lemov, Teach Like a Champion: 49 Techniques That Put Students on the Path to College.

So far, it strikes me 1) that teaching well requires a high level of skills and hard work.  2) That these skills can and should be explicitly taught and practiced in teacher preparation and professional development programs; we don’t have to rely on finding teachers who are just naturally good at teaching.  3) That I might have enjoyed class participation if my teachers had been more skilled at the use of the engagement techniques described in this book.  I’m looking forward to reading Part Two Helping Students Get the Most Out of Reading.
