While long-term facilities planning has been dominating local discussion, others in Iowa are moving ahead with innovative education programming ideas.
This summer Shawn Cornally and Trace Pickering launched The Big Ideas Group, a project-based learning option with competency-based assessments. The Cedar Rapids Community School District is already on board, and offering BIG as an option to their high school students this fall. Check out student projects at the gallery.
Students are also innovating: Jack Hostager, Ian Coon and friends have planned the first ever Iowa Student Learning Institute, an education conference designed to give students a voice in Iowa’s education future. Registration is full, but you can follow on Twitter at @IowaSLI or hashtag #ISLI. The conference is on October 5th at Waukee High School.
