The first day of the 86th General Assembly is scheduled for January 12, 2015 and twenty-eight bills have already been prefiled.
Three of these bills are proposed bills by the BOEE. One would allow for an extension of the one hundred eighty days to complete investigations of complaints if criminal charges relevant to the complaint are pending against the respondent. One is a technical correction removing a reference to hiring an executive director, as the governor now appoints the executive director. One would require the BOEE to review, as part of the license renewal application process, information in the Iowa court information system available to the general public for the applicant.
The Department of Education, so far, has prefiled one proposed bill. This bill relates to eligibility for the gap tuition assistance program, making changes to the criteria to be assessed in determining financial need.
