Billion Dollar Mandate.

EdWeek reports that four California school districts and a county office of education have filed a “mandate test claim”, seeking to obtain at least an additional one billion dollars from the state to reimburse all California districts for the costs of implementing statewide standardized testing, including the Smarter Balanced assessments.

    Wow. In Porterville, California — about the size of Iowa City — “we were forced to hire three new technology specialists in order to properly equip and train our staff to administer the SBA,” the superintendent said. “We are forced to forgo funding for other important programs.”

      That’s encouraging. So the assessments are supposed to benefit the kids by better guiding instructional decision-making but we have to cut instructional programs to pay for them, the technology, and the IT staff, which is a win for the kids how?
